This is a group of animations about longing, waiting, watching. It shares that with the newly minted market category in publishing, romantasy (romance + fantasy). And, like that genre, it has a surprising relationship with its watchers. Romantasy books draw directly from fan fiction, participating in a lively call and response with the category’s consumers. Metabolizing popular culture, these animations turn out something dark, obsessive, dystopic, and absolutely delightful.
