Peter Hutton: On the Hudson

For our closing night program, we present a selection of 16mm films by visionary American filmmaker Peter Hutton. A former merchant seaman, Hutton spent nearly forty years voyaging the world, often aboard cargo ships, recording the places he visited in exquisite, silent diaries. Drawing from nineteenth-century landscape painting and traditions of early cinema, Hutton distilled the natural world into images of a rare and quiet awe.

These three films embody Hutton's reverence for waterways, focusing on the Hudson River.
