by Buster Keaton & Edward Sedgwick. 1928, US, 67 min. WITH LIVE SCORE BY ORDER OF THE ILLUSIVE.
One of the most innovative comedians in cinema history, Buster Keaton is at the height of his silent slapstick mastery in The Cameraman, a love letter to movie-making. Starring as a clumsy street photographer who falls in love with a newsreel office secretary, he trades his still camera for a hand-cranked movie camera and weaves his way through the city streets filming everything in sight, only to find himself at the center of a major news story. Widely considered to be his final masterpiece, The Cameraman was Keaton’s first movie with studio behemoth MGM and his last film with full creative control.
Order of the Illusive creates live music for moving pictures. The trio consists of guitarist Geoff Gersh, Bradford Reed on pencilina and drums, and Zach Layton on a 17-string bass.
