An utterly original screwball comedy inspired by real U.S. military training camps, Atropia centers on a fictional village outside of Los Angeles where soldiers immerse themselves in simulated battlefields before deploying overseas. The incomparable Alia Shawkat stars as an aspiring actor hired to role-play as an Iraqi civilian who loses herself in the theatrics of war when she falls for a real veteran playing a fake insurgent, co-star Callum Turner. Writer-director Hailey Gates' bold, Sundance-winning feature debut embodies the farcical flimsiness of the American Empire.
